Hysteroscopy
- This procedure is used to evaluate the uterine cavity in patients who have abnormal bleeding or is often used in conjuction with the Essure and Novasure procedures.
- Many patients can have this procedure done in our office.
- Oral Sedation is optional.
- Some patients will be given medication to use the night before that helps dilate the cervix.
- Local anesthesia is used.
- A hysteroscope (5mm telescopic device) is inserted into the uterus through the cervix and a monitor displays the picture.
- Patients have the option to view the monitor picture if they wish.
- Normal saline is infused to open the uterine cavity.
- Biopsies can be taken if necessary.
- Uterine polyps can be located and removed.
- Expect full recovery the following day
